Child Forensic Services Specialist (posted October 23, 2019)
Working in a multidisciplinary team (MDT) environment, the full-time Child Forensic Services Specialist serves as the primary child forensic interviewer for the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County and the backup interviewer for the surrounding localities. The primary responsibilities of this position are to: (1) conduct developmentally and culturally appropriate, evidence-based forensic interviews of children and adolescents who are alleged victims of criminal maltreatment; (2) serve as an active, contributing member of the Charlottesville and Albemarle MDT, including organizing and managing the forensic interviewer peer review program; (3) serve as an active, contributing member of MDTs in surrounding counties as required; (4) coordinate the Stand Up for Kids! mandated reporter public education program; and (5) serve as the staff member primarily responsible for entering data in the NCAtrak case management software. The ideal candidate welcomes a team atmosphere where everyone works together to serve child victims and their families in the best possible way.

REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field from an accredited university required; a master's degree in social work, criminal justice, or a related field preferred.
- Previous training in one or more nationally-recognized, evidence-based forensic interview models/protocols (NCAC, NICHD, ChildFirst, APSAC, Cornerhouse) required; ChildFirst preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year experience conducting forensic interviews of children in response to allegations of sexual abuse and severe physical abuse required; previous experience in a children’s advocacy center, child protection, or working with a multidisciplinary child abuse team preferred.
- Knowledge of child development, specifically stages in cognitive, physical, moral, and emotional developmental stages.
- Sensitivity to the needs and welfare of children and caregivers who have experienced physical and/or sexual maltreatment.
- Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions, while demonstrating discretion and good judgment in handling confidential matters and sensitive information.
- Ability to testify in court proceedings as appropriate or requested regarding the interview process, as well as interviews in specific cases.
- Attention to detail with the ability to maintain detailed case records and other documentation.
- Ability to present engaging, interactive training to staff at youth-serving organizations and the general public.
- Ability to work with community organizations to promote, schedule, and present training.
- Spanish fluency and ability to interpret is a plus.

- Schedule is based on the needs of clients and MDT; flexibility is required.

- Some travel to surrounding counties is required.

Executive Director (The current Executive Director is retiring.)
The Executive Director is responsible for overall direction and leadership of the agency. The Executive Director has the ultimate responsibility for the fiscal management of the agency and staff management and directly supervises the Program Coordinator, the Mental Health Clinician, the Education Specialist, and other positions as needed. The Executive Director will be expected to develop and implement plans to enhance funding and community awareness and to develop existing and new programs within the agency mission. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors.

At least five years of experience in fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to the non-profit sector is preferred. Previous professional experience with child advocacy centers, criminal justice, or child welfare and participation in a multi-disciplinary team and familiarity with the National Children’s Alliance Standards of Accreditation for child advocacy centers are also preferred.
Qualified candidates will also have knowledge or experience in grant writing and reporting for Federal, State, and local governments; knowledge of strategic planning process and program evaluation; knowledge of the budgeting process and financial management; and knowledge and skills in human resources and staff development. Qualified candidates will have the ability to serve as the face and the voice of the center.

The Family Advocate provides victim advocacy and support services to the families of children who are alleged victims of criminal child maltreatment, including but not limited to sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, and witness to domestic violence. The primary service area of this position includes the surrounding counties of Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Madison, and Nelson and other surrounding counties as possible. This position will travel with the forensic interviewer to provide victim advocacy and support services in Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, and Madison Counties. This position will also serve as a backup victim advocate for families from Charlottesville and Albemarle County.
The non-offending caretaker’s response to child sexual and physical abuse is one of the most important factors that determine the psychological outcome for the child victim. The goals of this position in fulfilling the mission of Foothills Child Advocacy Center are to strengthen the role and responsibility of the non-offending caretaker to become a protective resource for the abused child.
This person provides trauma-informed crisis intervention on behalf of child victims and their non-offending caregivers, including assessment of risk and needs, trauma screenings, parent education, and safety and treatment planning; coordination of services including but not limited to medical and mental health referrals; and follow-up with the non-offending caretakers during the investigative and treatment process to ensure that their needs are being met. This person collaborates with the Center’s forensic interviewers and the counties’ child abuse Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) investigators to ensure that the best possible forensic assessment services are provided. This person also participates in the surrounding counties MDT meetings and maintains positive relationships with MDT members and agencies. This position shares responsibility for data entry/case tracking.
The Victim Advocate is a grant-funded, part-time, salaried position (24 hours a week) and reports directly to the Executive Director. If the person is a licensed mental health professional, there is a possibility that this position could be combined with the open Mental Health Clinician part-time position to become full-time. Qualified candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in social work or related field from an accredited college or university; have at least two years of experience working with children and families; and be highly sensitive to the needs and welfare of children and caretakers who have experienced physical and/or sexual maltreatment. This position requires the ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of clients and may include evening hours, although rarely.
Preferred candidates will have at least one year of experience working in the field of child protection, child maltreatment, sexual assault, or with children and families who have experienced trauma. The ability to speak fluent Spanish is also a plus.
